Too many people are making posts and not putting spoilers or their reaction to spoilers (which is a spoiler in itself) under a cut, so I am putting this group on moderation until after the book comes out.

What is the point?
Everyone still alive here? :o)
I've been doing some thinking over the last day and a half since watching the season finale of "Ugly Betty". There was something that made me think about Harry/Ginny.( Some ship history (spoilers?)Collapse )( Season Finale SpoilersCollapse )
Anyway, if you haven't gotten sick of this, my point is that in a television series (or book series spanning seven years), the longer it takes a couple to get together, the more likely it is to be real and lasting.
Let's look at Harry/Ginny. In the space of one book:
a) Harry notices Ginny "that way" for the first time.
b) Harry fancies Ginny.
c) Harry gets together with Ginny.
d) Harry breaks up with Ginny.
What was the point? If they are going to end up together at the end, why was it so rushed? Why break up if they are only going to get back together at Bill and Fleur's wedding in time for her to join the Horcrux Hunt? Or even if Ginny sits at home/Hogwarts waiting for Harry to return and then goes running into his arms?
Let's compare Harry/Ginny to other ships.
Harry/Cho: Harry first develops a crush on Cho in the third book but it is the fifth book before anything happens between them. And they are definitely not the final pairing.
Ron/Hermione: Their feelings for each other are evident by the fourth book, if not sooner, JKR has actually confirmed that they will be together, but here we are going into the last book and they are still not together!
What is going to become of Harry/Ginny? Current Mood: contemplative

Welcome on the Good Ship?
Some of you may have seen a comment on the latest Hermione/Ron thread over at SCUSA:
"I can't abandon my other OTP in the face of pirates...especially those who are here for nefarious purposes, not like Jack Sparrow pirates who are just here for the fun of it all..."
Well, it's a little weirdly written, but I get that 'not so welcome' feeling off it...thoughts? Current Mood: annoyed

Ron/Hermione a Mary Sue Couple?
Someone started a discussion at canon_sues
asking for examples of "Mary Sue Couples"
. I figured that if any pairing from HP came up, it would be Harry/Ginny. Well, somebody named Ron/Hermione
, with no explanation. I've never seen even the most rabid anti-shipper call them a Sue couple. (And that's the closest I've ever seen Ron Weasley get to being called a Gary Stu. He doesn't even get the Stu treatment in fanon.)
Well, I decided to do my part and post H/G
in the discussion. :oD

The following was posted as a response in the very first post of this community, but I thought it deserved it's own post so more people could see it:I don't have a live journal...but this seemed like a good place to ask this. I post at Mugglenet under MRSTJ1.
Why are R/Hr sites pushing OBHWF when they did not before? For example, I know several people who have submitted stories to Checkmated recently, that are R/Hr and Harry/Other, but since HbP they have been rejected for stupid reasons.

An interesting point got brought up on honestlyronald
Apparently, "After the End" is supposed to be the Bible--or "must read"--for R/Hr shippers. But I refuse to read it, because it also has a substantial amount of H/G in it as well. And yes, I really am that stubborn.
So I would say it's more of a OBHWF Bible than a R/Hr one. Can someone please
give me some R/Hr fic recs? I feel so awful, because I haven't read a R/Hr fic in SO LONG. Mostly because I'm trying to avoid H/G at all costs. ;_; I'm having R/Hr withdrawals, I think.

Pet Peeve Rant
Is anyone else sick and tired of reading Ron/Hermione fics and then reading the reviews and seeing at least one reviewer demanding a sequel or accompanying fic with Harry/Ginny? This isn't bitterness about H/G becoming canon either because they have been doing this for as long as I've been reading HP fanfic and that was long before OotP. A lot of H/G and OBHWF shippers just love forcibly shoving their ships down everyone else's throats. They're like religious fundies.
I remember reading one Ron/Hermione fic where the author was bold enough to write an author's note basically saying that (s)he did not ship or write H/G so don't expect to see it in the story and don't bother posting a review asking for it because (s)he wasn't writing it. Many H/G and OBHWF shippers had the nerve to be offended and that author got a bunch of angry reviews (none having anything to do with the fic itself). I think even one of the mods/admins reprimanded the author about that note.
Forgive this rant, but it's 3:00 am, I have to get up in 3 hours and I can't sleep so I decided to read some fics. I hope now more than ever than H/G is sunk in book 7, even if one or both characters has to die, just so I can quit having H/G shoved in my face and being called a JKR-basher all the time.
BTW, did you know that when you spell-check, the first suggested spelling for OBHWF is "ABHOR"? How fitting. Current Mood: irritated

"Creamtea's Stunning Fall-of-H/G Theory"
Have any of you read this wonderful essay
? Creamtea from FAP wrote it and her beta Anise (also of FAP) posted it. I wasn't sure about it at first when I read that it was about love potions but I think it's a seriously plausible theory. Let's just hope JKR doesn't hear about it and decide to debunk it on her site. ;o)
What do you all think? Current Mood: hopeful

Anyone else tired of going to all your R/Hr sanctuaries, only to have the canonness of H/G shoved down your throat? It's seriously wearing on my nerves. I can't talk about R/Hr anywhere without someone squeeing about H/G. $*#($*# Current Mood: cranky

What are your predictions/expectations for Ron/Hermione?
Well, HBP comes out in 2 weeks. I think all of us here have determined that we don't like Harry/Ginny :o), but we have not done much talking about Ron/Hermione. Many R/H shippers feel that HBP will be THE BOOK for R/H and I was wondering what everyone predicts or expects to happen with regard to that.
Me, I would love it if R/H became official in HBP, but I wouldn't mind if it took until book 7 for them to hook up. IMO, the longer they take to hook up, the less chance that they will break up before the end of the series. I still fear that one of them will die.
For some reason, I keep thinking that Ron will finally make his move on Hermione (the one everyone is waiting for), and be rebuffed for whatever reason. Don't ask why because I don't know myself. This will create even more friction between them, but it will be resolved by the end of the book.

Just a question...
I'm just curious--would you be as anti-H/G as you are if not for the fandom?
As for me, I'm not sure if I would be. I was never really for
H/G (actually, I don't even think I considered the notion), but I was never against it, really, until I became part of the HP fandom. Now I just can't stand it.
How about everyone else?

I just found this community, and I'm so glad! It's so hard to find R/Hr shippers who aren't H/G! I myself am H/L and N/G. Just wanted to introduce myself to the community! Current Mood: chipper
